In Dallas, Texas, a Filipino stands out not just for his story as a registered nurse-turned-entrepreneur but for his colorful life journey. Meet Chris Wycoco, a Filipino immigrant who has not only found success in the United States but has also become a source of inspiration for many, both in his homeland and among our kababayans in the US.

Thirteen years ago, Chris embarked on a life-changing adventure, armed with an immigrant visa and a dream. As a young boy in the Philippines, he understood the value of hard work early on, contributing to his family’s income by selling everything from food to beauty products. This tenacity and work ethic became the foundation for his future success.
Dallas isn’t just a city to Chris; it’s a community, a place where he has strengthened his ties with fellow Filipinos. His connections with US-based celebrities like Jaya, JayR, and Kris Lawrence and active participation in events echo the camaraderie he brings to the Filipino community in the States.
However, amid the glitz and glamor of his American life, Chris still cherishes the simplest things from his homeland, like the beloved pancit canton and other uniquely Filipino stuff. It’s a reminder of his roots and the journey he has undertaken to fulfill his aspirations.
Chris’s passion for numbers and accounting started back in high school when he meticulously listed down expenses. In 2011, he partnered with an accountant to establish WYCOTAX, a venture that provides worry-free, year-round tax, payroll, and bookkeeping services. His dedication to precision and detail has been a driving force in his professional success.
But Chris is more than just a nurse and entrepreneur; he’s a multifaceted personality with a flair for entertainment. His foray into showbiz in the Philippines, participating in contests like Game KNB?, Pinoy Henyo, and Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?, showcases his belief that life should be lived to the fullest.
“Success is just between you and yourself,” Chris asserts, emphasizing the importance of self-motivation. He encourages the younger generation to explore resources like social media, a platform he used to catapult himself into the world of vlogging. Through this, he secured hosting jobs for fashion shows and pageants in the US.
Despite his success, Chris remains humble, acknowledging the anxiety that comes with new challenges. Preparation is his key to gaining confidence. He looks up to the likes of Vice Ganda, Willie Revillame, Toni Gonzaga, and in the US, Steve Harvey, as hosts who inspire him.
His dream? To host a show like “It’s Showtime” and, if given the chance, he’s willing to shuttle back and forth between the US and the Philippines. Acting may not be on his radar, but the spontaneity and freedom that hosting brings resonate deeply with him.
Beyond the glitz of his entertainment career, Chris is a man on a mission. Inspired by his brother’s struggle with schizophrenia, he advocates for mental health awareness in the Philippines. Chris is actively supporting local organizations and is in the process of setting up a symposium to promote understanding and empathy for those grappling with mental health issues.
In my interview with Chris Wycoco, he generously shares tips for Filipinos aspiring to live in the US. His journey is not just a testament to hard work and perseverance but a shining example of how one person can make a difference in the lives of many.
As the nursing-turned-entrepreneur-and-host aptly puts it, “You only live once. Live life to the fullest.”
