One name that has been making waves in showbiz these days is Gillian Vicencio. Her journey began with auditions, VTRs, and commercials, ultimately leading to her breakthrough role in the film “Eerie,” where she starred alongside industry giants Bea Alonzo and Charo Santos Concio. Portraying the haunting character Erika Sayco, Gillian shared her experience, revealing, “Nung time na ginagawa po ito talagang hindi ako isinasama sa mga promos, guestings at kung ano ano para daw hindi mawala yung element of takot sa pelikula at kaya baguhang artista din ang kinuha para sa nasabing role.”

This initial success paved the way for a series of projects, including the horror film “Hellcome Home,” establishing Gillian as a promising talent. Joining Star Magic Batch 2019 and later becoming part of Rise Artists Studio under the guidance of Mico Del Rosario, Gillian continued to flourish, signing contracts alongside ABS-CBN’s big bosses.

The challenges of 2020, marked by the pandemic and ABS-CBN’s franchise struggles, brought uncertainty. Gillian shared her initial fears but expressed gratitude for the digital shows and online workshops that kept her engaged. “Siyempre po natakot ako, kami kasi kakapirma lang naming ng kontrata tapos ganun yung nangyayari that time pero binigyan naman kami ng assurance ng management na hindi nila kami pababayaan. Nandiyan yung mga digital shows naming everyday kung saan nahasa din kami sa hosting at naipapakilala naming ang sarili namin sa ibang mga artist ana aming nakakapanyam sa program ana We Rise Together (Live).”

Gillian’s breakthrough came with “Four Sisters Before the Wedding,” where she portrayed a young version of Angel Locsin’s character. Despite the pandemic, the prequel garnered attention, showcasing Gillian’s versatility and acting prowess. The actress further impressed audiences with projects like “Kargo” on Netflix, “Hello Stranger,” and the hit series “2 Good 2 Be True,” where her chemistry with Yves Flores, known as Red, sparked a fan-favorite pairing named Retox. Gillian expressed gratitude for the unexpected connection, emphasizing the positive impact it had on viewers.

As 2023 concluded, Gillian faced challenges but chose to focus on work and maintain peace of mind with the support of family and friends. She embraced the reality that speaking or staying silent would elicit opinions, opting to channel her energy towards positive aspects of her career.

In the present year, 2024, Gillian remains thankful and blessed for the opportunities she continues to receive. Her successful theater play “Kumprontasyon” at the PETA Theater in January marked a significant achievement, followed by an endorsement as one of Beautederm’s ambassadors, a renowned brand in the beauty industry.

Excitement surrounds Gillian as she joins the Filipino adaptation of “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” alongside Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino. Her collaboration with Yves Flores in their series, currently in production, adds to the anticipation.

Beyond TV projects, Gillian’s career takes an exciting turn with an upcoming slasher/massacre film titled “Talahib,” where she stars alongside Kristoff Garcia and Joem Bascon. Directed by Alvin Yapan under FEAST Foundation, the movie aims for international film festivals recognition, given its meticulous craftsmanship.

Gillian, appreciative of the director’s trust, shared her joy at being selected for the film, highlighting the director’s past accolades. With a track record including Carlos Palanca awards, Cairo International Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, and Gawad Urian, the actress looks forward to what the future holds.

One of her most exciting ventures is becoming part of rising beauty brand Beautéderm’s family. Gillian is so thankful for the opportunity and said, “Sobrang masaya kasi first endorsement ko ito, nakakatuwa na kahit baguhan at hindi pa ako ganoong kakilala ay nasama at pinag katiwalaan ako ni Mommy Rhei kasi nga mga A-listers ang mga artista sa Beautederm.”
