As the much-awaited Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 draws near, official entry, Mallari, starring the country’s ultimate heartthrob Piolo Pascual dropped its official poster.

In a previous interview, Piolo discussed his involvement in the upcoming film “Mallari,” a local adaptation of the Philippines’ first documented serial killer case. Initially hesitant, Piolo researched Mallari after the project was pitched to him, discovering the gravity of the character. Despite the challenges of portraying three distinct roles, his commitment to the project, fueled by the desire to challenge his established image and reignite interest in Philippine cinema, led him to accept the role. With a strong team led by director Derick Cabrido and producer John Bryan Diamante, Piolo expressed excitement about the film’s potential impact and the opportunity to offer something different to audiences.

Acknowledging the responsibility of breaking away from his familiar leading man persona, Piolo emphasized that the goal is not to celebrate the serial killer but to celebrate Philippine cinema. He viewed the project as a significant risk and challenge, aiming to ignite his passion for acting. Piolo concluded by expressing his eagerness to start filming, with the movie aspiring to become an official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival and contribute to the revival of interest in watching films on the silver screen.
