Aside from ’90s nostalgia kicking the moment I saw the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano and Roderick Paulate together onscreen, I was captivated by their ability to make me laugh in one scene and quickly bring me to tears in another. During a private preview of In His Mother’s Eyes teaser clips, I got to get a glimpse of a film that will potentially tug at so many Filipinos’ heartstrings.
The film which will revolve around the mother-and-son characters of Maricel and singer-actor LA Santos. LA portrays a young man with special needs who will be entrusted to his uncle Roderick Paulate’s care when his mother moves away. My fellow guests and I were kept intrigued by the lack of specifics in the teaser but we were impressed by the characters’ acting prowesses.
Maricel and Roderick are proof that talent is timeless and they have showcased in just a few minutes how effortless it is for them to evoke a range of emotions. While we have seen LA in TV series like Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin and Darna, his challenging role in this film demanded a different kind of attack which he seems to have portrayed well. The nuances and facial expressions seemed authentic that his scenes with Maricel and Roderick felt so real.
It would be really exciting to watch the whole project in full. If there is a theme or genre that can cater to everyone, it would be love for family after all.
